Ni-Krow-Li Volume I

Ni-Krow-Li Volume I

Back in March, I completed working through my first Nikoli puzzle book: The Pencil Puzzle 2022, or "Penpa 2022" as it's also known. Finishing it got my creative juices flowing, so I decided to celebrate by authoring a set of 9 speed-set puzzles, one for each of the genres in the book, sans Numberlink. I released them onto a Discord server at the end of the month to positive reception. I was satisfied with that, and I hadn't planned to release the puzzles publicly anywhere else.

However, I've since completed another Nikoli book and created a much, much larger set of puzzles to go with it. Given the work that's gone into the second set, I've decided that I want to post that set to my blog. But since the second set is going to be posted on here, why not post the first set here as well? I can make it into a series! And so...

DireKrow presents: Ni-Krow-Li, a series of puzzle sets inspired by various Nikoli books that I've completed, and a small celebration of the enduring creativity and ingenuity of the logic puzzle community.

This set consists of one puzzle from each genre featured in Nikoli's The Pencil Puzzle 2022. That's 10 puzzles total, including a Numberlink that I set for this release. Genres are listed in the same order they appeared in original book. The puzzle size and presentation aim to roughly match what is found in that book for each genre.

Difficulty varies from 🐦🐦 to 🐦🐦🐦 and overall I would expect experienced solvers to take about half an hour to work through the entire set. The Dotchi Loop and Kakuro are probably the hardest puzzles in the set.

Genre rules are not listed in the document. Instead, either refer to the Nikoli website, the individual rule pages on puzz.link, or the click the “Show Rules” button on the Penpa+ pages of puzzles using that interface.

That's all for now! Feel free to leave any feedback in the comments below.  I'll be posting up the much larger Volume II very soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Following is a raw list of puzzles from genres that puzz.link supports. This is here so that the puzzles get added to the puzz.link database, but the recommended way of experiencing the puzzles is through the pdf above.
